One of the earliest members of the BIS Edwards joined in 1936 and soon became the official London representative of the organisation, which at that time was still based in Liverpool. Edwards worked at a Radio Valve company in Clapton, London and his technical knowledge would ultimately be put to good use as the Research Director of the BIS Technical Committee. In that capacity he would lead the group to design the BIS lunar spacecraft which would be unveiled in the January 1939 issue of JBIS. In June 1936 Edwards would propose a London Section of the BIS which would ultimately lead to the complete transposition of the BIS from Liverpool to London beginning a few months later.
