One of the early members of the British Interplanetary Society, Gillings was also the first person to publish a professional science fiction magazine in England. His Tales of Wonder Magazine ran from 1937-1942 and followed his fanzine SCIENTIFICTION: The British Fantasy Review which ran from 1937-1938.
