Valeriy Fedorovich Bykovskiy; Colonel, Red Air Force; born August 2, 1934, Pavlovo-Posad near Moscow; married, one child. Became a cosmonaut in 1960 and attended Zhukovskiy Air Force Engineering Academy, graduating in 1968. He was the backup pilot for Vostok 3, pilot of Vostok 5, and was chief of cosmonaut training for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.
