SNAP-27 radioisotope thermoelectric generator completed third year of continuous operation on lunar surface. Atomic battery had been deployed on moon by Apollo 12 astronauts Nov. 19, 1969, to power scientific experiments. SNAP- 27, which had one-year life requirement of 63.5 w, was supplying more than 69 w. Generator, developed by Atomic Energy Commission, was fueled with plutonium 238 isotopes. (AEC Release P-372)
Kennedy Space Center awarded $4.7 million contract to Morrison- Knudsen, Inc., to develop KSC facilities for Viking spacecraft encapsulation. Contract provided for modification of an addition to one structure and construction of new building in KSC Fluid Test Facility area. (KSC Release 3472)
Hall of Science, visited by some 5 million persons during 1964-65 World's Fair in Flushing, N.Y, was reopened with exhibits including NASA satellite and Apollo mockup.
