October 16-17: Engineers from NASA, TRW Inc., and Spacecom successfully carried out two maneuvers to put TDRS 1 at its permanent station at 41W. The communications satellite, launched from the shuttle in April, was now over the Atlantic Ocean at the equator just off the north coast of Brazil. (NASA Release 83-156)
