The Air Force placed a military satellite, launched aboard a Titan 34D rocket, into orbit 23,000 miles above the Earth. According to a spokesman from the Federation of American Scientists, the satellite was a DSP-5R, one of a series of Defense Support Program satellites providing early warning of a hostile missile attack.
