Morton Thiokol conducted a full-scale test firing of a Space Shuttle solid rocket motor (SRM), Qualification Motor 8 (QM-8), under conditions simulating a cold-weather launch. The QM-8 was the sixth and final test of the redesigned Space Shuttle SRMs. A major objective of the test was to determine the performance of the SRM's redesigned field joints under cold weather conditions.
