Daniel S. Goldin, NASA Administrator, announced that following a White House directive, NASA had begun a redesign of the proposed Space Station to make it simpler, smaller, easier to build, and cheaper to operate. The redesign team planned to present three proposed models to the Clinton administration by June 1. Goldin said that the Agency would make maximum use of the $8.5-billion worth of work that had gone into designing and planning the Space Station since the mid-1980s.
