Evidence obtained from instruments carried aloft by balloons supports the theory that supernovae are a source of electrons in cosmic rays reaching vicinity of earth, scientists reported in Physical Review Letters. Experiments revealed primary cosmic rays in earth's upper atmosphere contain average of three times as many electrons as positrons. The high-altitude balloon experiments, conducted last summer near Ft. Churchill, Manitoba, by physicists of Univ. of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, also demonstrated for first time the existence of positrons in primary cosmic rays. (Wash.
