William D. Brown was manager, Engine Program Office in Program Management at MSFC. A native of Alabama, he was born in Huntsville on December 17, 1926. He was a graduate of Joe Bradley High School in Huntsville and attended Athens College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute to earn his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. Following graduation from Auburn University in 1951, he returned to Huntsville to accept a position with the Army research and development team at Redstone Arsenal, where he was involved in catalyst development for the Redstone missile. Shortly after the Army Ballistic Missile Agency was activated at Redstone, Brown became a rocket power plant engineer with ABMA. He transferred en masse to the Marshall Space Flight Center when that organization was established in 1960.
