John J. Williams, was Director, Spacecraft Operations, Kennedy Space Center, he was responsible to the Director of Launch Operations for the management and technical integration of KSC Operations related to preparation, checkout and flight readiness of manned spacecraft. Born in New Orleans, La., in 1927, Williams was graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1949. Williams performed engineering assignments at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, and the Air Force Missile Test Center, Patrick AFB, Florida, before joining NASA in 1959. Williams played important roles in the manned Mercury and Gemini programs before moving to his post at KSC in 1964.
