Juno V was a 1,000,000 booster proposed by Heinz Hermann Koelle and Frank Williams of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency. The first conceptual calculations were done by Koelle in April of 1957 based on his 1951 studies for the "Optimum Rocket" he created with Helmut Hoeppner. The Juno V evolved into the first stage of the Saturn I rocket after $10M in funding was provided by ARPA in early 1958. Various upper stages were considered for the Juno V including the Martin Titan and Convair Atlas missiles.
