Beginning in 1985 Omni started to publish Special Physicians editions, sponsored by the Squibb pharmaceutical company. In May of 1986 the Winthrop company sponsored a Diagnostic Medicine Edition which ran intermittently until July 1987. In November 1986 Omni began publishing a newsletter called Longevity. This ran until January 1987 and was then followed by a full colour magazine called Omni Longevity which began in October 1988. In November 1987 a full "Medical" edition of Omni appeared and ran until June 1989.

Contributions to these special editions tended to be taken from the main news-stand edition of Omni and included such names as Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, Fred Pohl, Tim Ferris, Freeman Dyson, Colin Hay, Chesley Bonestell and Sir Patrick Moore. Printing quality for the Winthrop editions included exquisite metallic foil, glitter, special die-cutting and metal inks.
