STS 4 was the fourth and last manned orbital test flight of the Space Transportation System. Astronauts Thomas Mattingly II and Henry Hartsfield verified the combined performance of the Space Shuttle vehicle. STS 4 carried the first operational Getaway Special (GAS) canister for Utah State University along with payload DOD 82-1. The mission duration was 169 hours 9 minutes 31 seconds.
