Colonel USAF Dr. Richard S. Williams
Dr. Richard S. Williams serves as the chief health and medical officer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He is responsible for health and medical policy and oversight. Dr. Williams is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (aerospace medicine). He has extensive experience in the clinical practice of both general surgery and aerospace medicine as well as in administrative medical management. He has held appointments as assistant clinical professor of surgery at Wright State University and associate clinical professor of surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. As a military officer, Dr. Williams served in the US Air Force for twenty-seven years. He is a senior FAA aviation medical examiner, and is an instrument rated private pilot with over 2,700 hours flying single and multi-engine aircraft.
