First Annual Symposium on Space Travel takes place at the Hayden Planetarium in New York. Speakers were:

  • Dr Albert Park - Director Museum of Natural History
  • Robert R. Coles - Chairman Hayden Planetarium
  • Willy Ley - Author "Thirty Years of Space Travel Research"
  • Robert P. Havilland - Engineer Project Hermes (GE) "Engineering and Application of the Satellite Vehicle"
  • Dr. Fred L. Whipple - Chairman Department of Astronomy Harvard University "The Upper Atmosphere and Empty Space"
  • Heinz Haber M.D. - Dept of Space Medicine USAF School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph Field TX "Space Medicine"
  • Oscar Schachter - Acting Asst. Sec Gen. Legal Dept United Nations "Legal Aspects of Space Travel"

Ley was symposium coordinator.

Also in attendance were reporters from Collier's magazine.
