15 -17 June: The first [VLC 2; see 1 May] of 2 Viking Landers scheduled for launch in August underwent more than 47 hr of sterilization at Kennedy Space Center. Preliminary electrical testing indicated that all subsystems survived the process, including 30 hrs at the maximum chamber temperature of 112°C. Additional tests would check to make sure that the onboard science experiments were in good working condition.
