The Japanese spacecraft, Suisei, passed within 94,000 miles of Comet Halley's nucleus on this date. Although the pass was far more distant than passes by the Soviet's two Vega spacecraft, or the European Space Agency's Giotto, Japanese scientists were immensely pleased with the data.
