Northrop Grumman Corporation announced that it would reduce its workforce by 9,000 people, or nearly 20 percent, by the end of 1995. The reduction resulted from the shrinking U.S. military budget and the merger of the two corporation, Northrop and Grumman, in May 1994. The areas that would be hard hit by the layoffs were California and Long Island. (NY Times, Sep 23/94)
