Data from NASA's ER-2 and DC-8 aircraft show that climate computer models have significantly underestimated the amount of solar energy absorbed by clouds. The data were taken as the ER-2 flew at about 12 miles altitude while the DC-8 flew five to seven miles below it. The improved models will increase the accuracy of weather forecasting.
