STS 5 was the first operational flight of the Space Transportation System. Astronauts Vance Brand, Robert Overmeyer, Joseph Allen, and William Lenoir were on board and deployed the SBS-C and Telesat-C satellites. This Shuttle launch demonstrated the ability to conduct routine space operations. The mission duration was 122 hours 14 minutes 26 seconds.
