Boris Valentinovich Volynov; Colonel, Red Air Force; born December 18, 1934, Irkutsk, Siberia; married, two children. Attended Zhukovskiy Air Force Engineering Academy, and became a cosmonaut in 1960. He was the backup pilot for Vostok 5, backup command pilot for Voskhod 1, backup pilot for Soyuz 3, and command pilot of Soyuz 5.
