NASA successfully launched an Aerobee 150 to 128-mi. altitude from White Sands, N. Mex. Primary purpose was to measure absolute intensity of the stars in the ultraviolet with 50 Angstrom resolution. (NASA Rpt. SRL)
President Johnson appointed a national commission to study the impact of technological changes on American life. Howard Bowen, an economist and president of the Univ. of Iowa, was nominated chairman of the 14-member panel which would submit a report to Congress and the President on four areas: the role and pace of technological change, both past and future; the impact of technological change during the next ten years on the Nation's economy and social structure; unmet community and human needs to which modern technology might be effectively applied; the most effective means for channeling technology into promising directions.
