Pam Leestma

Pam Leestma teaches second grade at Valley Christian Elementary School in Bellflower, California. Teaching for thirty years, Pam continues to incorporate her love of space into her curriculum. Pam attended a NEWMAST NASA workshop at Edwards Air Force Base in 2002. From this she developed a program promoting global friendship. Lessons were shared with teachers and students in the United States and Turkey through e-mailing and video-conferencing using NASA's digital learning network. Pam has been a part-time flight director at the Challenger Learning Center in Carson and is a board member of the Orange County Space Society. In March of 2005 the X-Rocket's new Teacher in Space program provided a flight for her in a MIG 21. She is a past president of the Southwest Christian Teachers' Association. Her cousin, astronaut David Leestma, has flown three times in the Space Shuttle.
