Ed Frederick, Ph.D.

Ed Frederick is presently adjunct professor of astronomy at Clark University. He received a Ph.D. in physics from Ohio University. His doctoral research dealt with x-rays from the Crab Pulsar, at a time when pulsars were first being discovered. The first decade after graduation he was an experimental scientist in x-ray security systems, x-ray medical systems, and x-ray astronomy at American Science & Engineering, where he conducted laboratory testing on one of the detectors on the Einstein Observatory, the first satellite to obtain x-ray images. He was vice president of the Instrument Systems Division during his last four years. During the next decade he was an experimental scientist in the development of gamma-ray detectors used by the medical and the scientific communities at Radiation Monitoring Devices. He then spent ten years as planetarium director at the New England Science Center, and taught night courses in astronomy and cosmology at Clark University.
