A film camera can be used, but a digital still camera with a high megapixel capability is ideal. It is always good to have a spare as well. After taking pictures with the digital camera, the images can be quickly downloaded to a computer and sent home to family and friends via e-mail. Cameras that operate with film are still used in space but the film has to be returned back to Earth to be processed.
