Although this does not apply to what we currently know about Mercury, scientists have discovered extremophiles, strange types of life that can exist in very harsh conditions where it would be difficult for humans to survive. Despite the disparate temperatures on Mercury, perhaps some type of extreme life could exist there—though it would be very different from the life we now know.
