The first launch of several mail carrying rockets on Sussex Downs, carrying 2864 pieces of mail, by German rocket experimenter Gerhard Zucker. The launches were in contravention of the British Explosives Act of 1875 but were somehow allowed, despite the government strictly refusing to allow launches by the British Interplanetary Society. The launch is given front page coverage in the Daily Express newspaper.
