10 (rocket engine)

The "10" was a liquid fuel engine designed for the GIRD-X in 1933 by Fridrikh Zander. It had 70kg thrust and development began in January of that year. It consisted of a pyriform oxygen cooled combustion chamber and used liquid oxygen and gasoline. Zander died before full testing could be finished. In August 1933 burn throughs necessitated structural changes and the gasoline was replaced by alcohol. It was finally tested successfully in October 1933. Specific impulse was 162 to 175 sec with a combustion chamber pressure of 8 to 10 atm. Burn time was 22 seconds using 78% ethyl alcohol.
