IAM strike at KSC ended when an agreement was reached between Local 773 of IAM and TWA, sending 1,100 machinists back to work. Labor-management observers cited the local agreement as a "first" for KSC. (KSC Historian)

Commenting on the tiny US. flag packed into SURVEYOR I which soft-landed on the moon June 2, Sydney Harris said in the Sun Francisco Examiner & Chronicle: "If we begin to export nationalism to the moon, we are defeating the very purpose of science and exploration."
