Education
Dr. Bukley holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, with a specialty in Control Theory, from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Academic Professional Career
Prior academic appointments include Associate Vice President and Chief Administrator for the University of Tennessee Space Institute in Tullahoma, Tennessee and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the Russ College of Engineering at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Industrial work
Prior to entering academe, Dr. Bukley gained nearly two decades of experience working with a number of space systems and defense contractors on a wide variety of flight programs including five years with The Aerospace Corporation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She spent seven years working at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama where she directed the Large Space Structures Laboratory and developed a number of remote sensing applications aimed at disaster management.
International Space University
Dr. Bukley has also been a member of and chaired the ISU Academic Council and has held department and team project chair positions in the ISU Space Studies Program since 1994. In addition to her administrative duties, she also teaches Space Engineering courses in the ISU Master’s Program.
Author
Dr. Bukley has over 70 technical publications including the 2007 book Artificial Gravity, which she co-wrote and co-edited with Dr. Gilles Clément. The book received the International Academy of Astronautics 2008 Life Sciences Book of the Year Award.
Professional Affiliations
She is an Associate Fellow in the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics and an active member in the American Astronautical Society, International Federation for Automatic Control, National Space Society, and American Society for Engineering Education. In 2003, Dr. Bukley received the University of Alabama in Huntsville Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award.
