The Gesellschaft für Weltraumforschung German "Society for Space Research" met on the occasion of its one-year anniversary for a conference at which Dipl.Ing. Heinz Gartmann spoke about energy problems and performance analysis of large rockets. From the annual report given by the managing director, Heinz Hermann Kölle, it can be inferred that in the first year of its existence the society was able to attract numerous German and foreign scholars to its work and established close links with foreign scientific associations. Heinz Gartmann, who served as a missile specialist after the war in the United States and was appointed technical advisor to the US military government for Germany, was elected as the new scientific director. The "Society for Space Research" continues the tradition of the former organisation of the same name, which was founded in 1937 by H. Kaiser and emerged from the old "Verein für Raumschiffahrt".
