J-57 engine with a thrust of 10,000 pounds placed into production (1941 Whittle turbojet engine had 850 pounds thrust).

American Medical Association authorized American Board of Preventive Medicine to establish aviation medicine as a distinct specialty and to grant certification for those physicians properly qualified.
