Wernher von Braun named an Honorary Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society.

Around this time Heinz Gartmann travels to Paris to discuss with French astronautics experts the possibility of forming an international astronautics organisation. This would ultimately lead to the formation of the International Astronautical Federation.
