NASA's ERTS 1 Earth Resources Technology Satellite-routinely surveying crops, forests, watersheds, and mineral deposits on the earth since its 23 July 1972 launch-had transmitted photos of seven major Soviet antiballistic missile launch and radar installations at the Sary Shagan development site in southern Russia, the San Diego Union reported. The newspaper pointed out the ERTS satellites might be used to discover whether the Soviets were violating arms limitation agreements. (Macomber, San Diego Union, 15 Dec 75)
