NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin announced that the United States plans as many as 10 Shuttle missions to the Russian Mir Space Station as the two countries prepare to join in the future development of a joint international Space Station. Goldin said that the plans for the dockings are contained in a NASA proposal for expanded cooperation in space with the Russians that he plans to submit to the Clinton administration early next week. The proposal calls for U.S.-led construction of an International Space Station in Earth orbit beginning in 1997.
