The world's two largest wind tunnels became fully operational at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. The two tunnels, the upgraded 40-by-80 foot wind tunnel and the new, open circuit, 80-by-120 foot wind tunnel, are housed in the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex. Both tunnels are used for full-scale and large-scale testing of advanced aircraft. They offer new capability for testing of rotorcraft and vertical and short-takeoff and landing aircraft (V/STOL).
