NASA announced appointment of Andrew J. Stofan as deputy associate administrator for the Office of Space Sciences, effective Jan. 8, 1978, succeeding Dr. Anthony J. Calio who had become associate administrator for the Office of Space and Terrestrial Applications. Stofan had been director of launch vehicles at Lewis Research Center since July 1974; he had begun there in 1958 as a research engineer, assigned in 1962 to the Centaur project and becoming project manager of the Titan-Centaur vehicle in 1970.
