Sunday Express reports "Rocket That Was Meant for a Planet Explodes in Manchester". A rocket exploded and sent metal fragments into the crowd at a Manchester Interplanetary Society rocket launch gathering in Clayton Vale. Injured was Herbert Snelson of Clayton who was taken to hospital with a leg injury from a metal fragment. Mr M.G.E. Wade, secretary of the society was also slightly injured as was a "cinematograph photographer". Police intervened and further launches were cancelled. President Eric Burgess was on hand for demonstration which was "first of its kind".
The Sunday Chronicle reported that Wade had been asked to visit the Explosives Department at Manchester Town Hall. A picture shows the boys standing dangerously close to the launch stand during ignition.
