NASA signed with the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) an extension of its contract for performance of research and development at JPL. The contractual relationship had been in effect since 1962; JPL studies for NASA's Office of Space Science and Applications (OSSA) had been principally in space science and unmanned exploration of the Moon and planets. Extension from October 1, 1983, through September 30, 1988, would cover space exploration and Earth observation. (NASA Release 83-122)
