Apollo 17 spacecraft atop Saturn V booster, scheduled for launch toward moon Dec. 6, was rolled to Launch Complex 39, Pad A, at Kennedy Space Center. Roll-out was watched by about 5000 persons, including Apollo 17 astronauts. (Benedict, M Her, 8/29/72)
Manned Spacecraft Center announced award of $226 256 contract to Martin Marietta Corp. to study system for handling space shuttle cargo in space. MSC engineers envisioned manipulators to handle payloads in shuttle orbiter as being 9-12 m (30-40 ft) long, electrically powered, and free-moving like human limbs. People's Republic of China signed preliminary purchasing contract with British Aircraft Corp. in Peking for third Anglo-French Concorde supersonic airliner. RAC had signed similar agreement for two Concordes July 24. (RAC Release 14C/72)
