Clifford C. Furnas, President of Western New York Nuclear Research Center and member of NAE, was appointed to newly created position of Vice Chairman of National Research Council (NRC), in which he would "assist the Chairman, WAS President Frederick Seitz, in the general administration of the NRC and help coordinate activities" between NAE, WAS, and NRC.
