Georgiy Stepanovich Shonin; Colonel, Red Air Force; born August 3, 1935, Rovenki, the Ukraine; married, two children. Attended Naval Air Force College, Zhukovskiy Air Force Engineering Academy, and became a cosmonaut in 1960. He was backup commander for Soyuz 5 and commander of Soyuz 6.
