The Pentagon announced that it would allocate $1.5 billion for the V-22 Osprey to keep development of the aircraft alive through next year. The move temporarily settled a three-year battle between Defense Secretary Dick Cheney and a coalition of V-22 supporters in Congress and the military. (USA Today, Jul 13/92)
