NASA's JPL announced that Discover Magazine had awarded NASA's Solar Electric Propulsion Technology Application Readiness (NSTAR) program team its Award for Technological Innovation in the exploration category. The annual awards "honor teams whose innovations improve the quality of everyday life." The NSTAR program team won the award for its work on the futuristic ion-propulsion system used on NASA's Deep Space 1 spacecraft.
