The U.S. Air Force "officially declared dead" its US$ 800 million Milstar communications satellite. Launched atop a Titan IV rocket on 30 April and placed in the wrong orbit, the Milstar would "never reach its intended 22,300-mile-high [35,900-kilometer-high] orbit." U.S. Air Force representative Aaron Renenger stated that the useless satellite "could remain in orbit for hundreds of years," but posed no threat to other spacecraft .
