Air Transport Assn. (ATA) issued statement urging FAA to expedite its program for automatic equipment to improve the control of air traffic. Statement noted that by 1970 airlines would have more than two thirds of their share of the equipment installed compared to FAA, which would have only one third of its ground stations suitably equipped. ATA urged that FAA temporarily abandon plans for a complex and costly system and proceed instead with less elaborate equipment. (AP, NYT, 5/22/67, 25)
