Airport built on artificial island on Goodwin's Sandbank-12 mi. off coast of England in English Channel-was London consulting engineer G. E. Bratchell's answer to noise problem anticipated from projected Anglo-French Concorde SST and other planned supersonic jet aircraft, Reuters reported. Takeoffs and approaches would be made over sea, avoiding danger of crashes in populated areas. By time aircraft was over land, it would be at height where noise was no longer a problem. A natural gas fog-dispersal system would make the airport accessible every day of the year. (Reuters, Wash. Post, 11/24/66, K10)
