NASA agreed to restructure and extend its contract with USBI Company, which had previously assembled and refurbished the Shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters. The new contract extended the partnership for 45 months, paying US$500 million to USBI to support the Shuttle program. Based on the terms of the agreement and on USBI's production schedule, NASA estimated that the partnership would cover approximately seven Shuttle missions annually for the duration of the contract.
