On the 40th anniversary of the flight of Apollo 13 the Canadian Air And Space Museum awarded the Canadian Air & Space Pioneer Award to the University of Toronto Institute For Aerospace Studies for the role played by Professors Barry French, Ben Etkin, Phil Sullivan, Irvine Glass and R.C. Tennyson in saving the crew of the damaged craft. The UTIAS team had received a call from Grumman Aerospace in the final hours of the mission and had asked them to calculate how to separate the Apollo command and lunar modules safely using the air pressure in the adjoining tunnel.
